Arbitration

Arbitration is a form of alternative dispute resolution by which the determination of a dispute is entrusted to one or more independent third parties rather than the court. While an arbitrator is bound to apply the law accurately, he may adopt a form of procedure that appears to him to be appropriate and is not bound by exclusionary rules of evidence. In Scotland, the arbitrator is known as an arbiter. Small claims in England are run as arbitration proceedings.
