Hon. Edmund Ponce de Leon (Ret.)

Edmund Ponce de Leon was a Cook County Circuit Court Judge for almost 20 years. He spans almost 40-years of experience in the legal profession. He is highly regarded, with extensive experience in civil litigation, including trying hundreds of court cases as a judge. He has a reputation as having an exceptional ability in resolving legal disputes involving property and personal rights.

Edmund Ponce de Leon graduated from the John Marshall Law School in 1984 with Honors. He practiced as a lawyer representing clients in civil litigation and real estate transactions.

In 1996, he was elected as a Cook County Circuit Court Judge. In 2001, he was promoted as Presiding Judge of the 4th Municipal District. In 2010 he was appointed Presiding Judge of the County Division handling Real Estate Taxation litigation, Property Forfeitures, Adoptions, Election Contests, and a host of many other matters. Ponce de Leon also heard complex cases in the Commercial Section of the Law Division and in the General Tort Section, presiding over jury trials.

In 2011 and 2012, he was awarded the distinguished recognition from the Chicago Bar Association Real Estate Committee. He also garnered many other awards throughout his judicial career.

Ponce de Leon was appointed mentor for new judges and lectured at numerous judicial education seminars for Illinois Judges. He was also appointed on the Circuit Court’s Committee in the selection process of Associate Judges. He was found “Qualified” by all the Bar Associations every time he ran for retention election as a Circuit Court Judge.

He attended the Northwestern University Professional Program and was certified in mediation. Currently, Edmund Ponce de Leon is an appointed Arbitrator with the Circuit Court’s Mandatory Arbitration Program in the Law Division and hears Tort, property and Commercial cases.

Edmund Ponce de Leon is certified with the State of Illinois as an agent for the issuance of title insurance with Old Republic Title Insurance Company.
